Myofascial Release
At Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab, we use myofascial release to help athletes and active individuals in Centennial, CO and the surrounding Denver area address muscle tension, improve mobility, and move more comfortably. Myofascial release is one of the hands-on techniques we use as part of a comprehensive approach to recovery, movement, and injury prevention.
What Is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release is a hands-on treatment technique designed to address tension and restrictions within the muscles and fascia. Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones, and other structures throughout the body. When muscles and surrounding tissues become tight or restricted, it can affect mobility and how efficiently your body moves.
During treatment, controlled pressure is applied to areas of tension or restriction within the soft tissues. The goal is to help reduce excessive tension, improve tissue mobility, and allow the muscles and surrounding structures to move more freely.
Myofascial release can be performed using a variety of hands-on techniques depending on the area being treated and your individual needs. Treatment pressure and techniques are adjusted based on your comfort level, symptoms, and goals.
What Can Myofascial Release Help With?
Myofascial release may be incorporated into treatment when muscle tension or soft tissue restrictions are contributing to discomfort or limited movement. It may be useful for:
- Muscle tightness and tension
- Restricted mobility
- Sports-related muscle soreness
- Overuse and repetitive activity
- Soft tissue restrictions
- Muscle stiffness
- Recovery following physical activity
- Movement limitations
For athletes and active individuals, muscle and fascial restrictions can sometimes affect mobility, recovery, and performance. Addressing these restrictions may help you move more comfortably and prepare your body for the demands of training, competition, or everyday activity.
Myofascial release isn’t intended to simply treat the area where you feel discomfort. When appropriate, it can be combined with other treatments to address the broader movement and muscular factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.
How We Use Myofascial Release
At Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab, myofascial release is one of many tools we use to help you move better and recover more effectively. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we evaluate your symptoms, movement, activity level, and individual goals to determine where hands-on treatment may be most beneficial.
Myofascial release may be combined with sports chiropractic care, IASTM, dry needling, cupping, mobility work, and corrective exercise. Combining hands-on techniques with movement-based treatment allows us to address both soft tissue restrictions and the underlying factors that may be affecting how you move.
Our goal is not simply to make an area feel better temporarily. We want to help you improve mobility, restore normal movement, and get back to the activities you enjoy. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, dealing with persistent muscle tension, or looking to maintain mobility as you stay active, we personalize your treatment to your body, your goals, and your lifestyle.
