Dry Needling
At Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab, we use dry needling accompanied with electrical stimulation (e-stim) as part of our comprehensive approach to helping athletes and active individuals in Centennial, CO and the surrounding Denver area recover, move better, and return to the activities they enjoy.
What Is Dry Needling?
Dry needling uses thin, sterile needles to target specific areas of muscle tissue that may be tight, irritated, or contributing to pain and restricted movement. When a muscle becomes overworked, injured, or remains tense for an extended period, it can develop sensitive areas that affect how the muscle functions and how the surrounding body moves.
By targeting these areas, dry needling can help decrease muscle tension, improve circulation, and encourage more normal muscle function. It can also stimulate the body’s natural pain-modulating response, which may help calm sensitive tissues and make movement more comfortable.
At Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab we use e-stim dry needling, which combines traditional dry needling with gentle electrical stimulation. After the needles are placed into the targeted muscle, a low-level electrical current is applied through the needles. This creates controlled muscle stimulation that can encourage the muscle to relax and return to more normal function.
E-stim gives us another tool to address muscular tension and dysfunction and can be incorporated into a larger treatment plan based on your individual needs.
What Can Dry Needling Help With?
Dry needling can be useful when muscle tension or dysfunction is contributing to pain, restricted movement, or difficulty performing an activity. It may be incorporated into treatment for:
- Muscle tightness and tension
- Sports and overuse injuries
- Muscle strains
- Trigger points
- Limited mobility
- Muscle soreness and fatigue
- Persistent or recurring muscular pain
For athletes, dry needling can be particularly useful when muscle tightness or restricted mobility begins to affect training, performance, or recovery. It may also be helpful for active individuals dealing with muscle discomfort that interferes with exercise, hobbies, or everyday activities.
Dry needling is not intended to simply treat the area where you feel pain. When appropriate, it can be used alongside other treatments to address the factors contributing to your symptoms and help restore better movement.
How We Use Dry Needling
At Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab, dry needling is one of many tools we use to help you move better and recover more effectively. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we evaluate your movement, symptoms, and individual goals to determine where dry needling may be most beneficial.
We use e-stim dry needling, combining traditional dry needling with gentle electrical stimulation to provide targeted treatment to tight, irritated, or dysfunctional muscles. The stimulation can help encourage muscle relaxation, improve muscle function, and support the body’s natural pain-relieving response.
Dry needling may be used on its own or combined with other treatments such as sports chiropractic care, soft tissue therapy, mobility work, and corrective exercise. By combining different techniques, we can address both the immediate symptoms and the underlying movement or muscular factors that may be contributing to them.
Our goal is not simply to make an area feel better temporarily. We want to help you restore normal movement, improve how your body functions, and get back to the activities you enjoy. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, dealing with persistent muscle tension, or trying to stay at the top of your game, Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab provides personalized dry needling and sports chiropractic care to athletes and active individuals in Centennial, CO and the surrounding Denver area.
