Cupping

At Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab, we use cupping therapy as part of our comprehensive approach to helping athletes and active individuals in Centennial, CO and the surrounding Denver area manage muscle tension, improve mobility, and recover from physical activity. Cupping can be used as a stand-alone treatment or combined with other therapies to help your body move and function more effectively.

What Is Cupping?

Cupping is a hands-on treatment technique that uses specialized cups to create gentle suction against the skin. The suction lifts the skin and underlying tissues, creating a pulling sensation that can help address areas of muscle tension and soft tissue restriction.

Cupping may help increase local circulation and promote relaxation in tight or overworked muscles. It can also be used to address areas that feel restricted or uncomfortable and may be contributing to limitations in movement.

During treatment, cups may be placed over specific areas of the body and left in position for several minutes or moved across the skin using controlled techniques. The approach used will depend on your symptoms, treatment goals, and the areas being addressed.

It is common for cupping to leave temporary circular marks or discoloration on the skin. These marks are generally not painful and typically fade over several days.

What Can Cupping Help With?

Cupping can be a useful tool when muscle tension or soft tissue restrictions are affecting how you move or feel. It may be incorporated into treatment for:

  • Muscle tightness and tension
  • Sports-related soreness
  • Overworked or fatigued muscles
  • Soft tissue restrictions
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery following athletic activity
  • Muscle discomfort
  • Areas of muscular stiffness

For athletes and active individuals, muscle tension can sometimes interfere with training, recovery, or performance. Cupping may help address areas of tightness and restriction so you can move more comfortably and continue working toward your goals.

Cupping isn’t intended to simply treat the area where you feel discomfort. When appropriate, it can be used alongside other treatments to address muscular and movement-related factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.

How We Use Cupping

At Kinetic Sports Medicine & Rehab, cupping is one of many tools we use to help you move better and recover more effectively. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we evaluate your symptoms, movement, activity level, and individual goals to determine whether cupping may be beneficial as part of your treatment.

Cupping may be combined with sports chiropractic care, IASTM, dry needling, cupping, mobility work, and corrective exercise. By combining different treatment techniques, we can address muscle tension and mobility restrictions while also working toward the underlying factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Our goal is not simply to provide temporary relief. We want to help you improve how your body moves and functions so you can get back to the activities you enjoy. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, dealing with persistent muscle tension, or looking to maintain mobility as you stay active, we personalize your treatment to your body, your goals, and your lifestyle.
